| “So far, this beautiful book
has been the most comprehensive and useful (guide book) of all the published works on
Turkey. You are introducing Turkey and the history of Anatolia vividly through 550 pages
and a rich archive of pictures. I believe the term “guide book” will not suffice
because you are presenting the cultural history of Turkey with all its richness. After
reading your work thoroughly I derived the conclusion that it should be used as a
reference book in every home, secondary and high school libraries. I am deeply impressed
by the fluency of style in covering the areas such as geography, history, economy,
administration, natural resources, religion, language, traditions, handicrafts (especially
Karagöz and Hacivat). You have a very good command of English. And I must confess that I
envy the high quality of the photos. On the other hand, the painstaking page design is a
great success in its kind too.....” Kitabiniza “Gezi Rehberi” adini vermissiniz. Oysa siz Turkiye kultur tarihini butun zenginlikleri ile tanitiyorsunuz. Kitabinizi okuduktan sonra onun her evde, her orta okul ve lise kutuphanelerinde yer almasinin gerekli oldugu kanisina vardim. Yurdumuzun cografyasini, tarihini, ekonomisini, idare sistemini, dogal varliklarini, din ve dil konularini, orf ve adetlerini hatta geleneksel sanatlarini (ozellikle Karagoz ve Hacivat’i) akici bir dille ele aliyorsunuz. Guclu Ingilizce’nize hayranlik duydum. Resimlerinizin niteligini dogrusunu soylemek gerekirse kiskandim. Kitabinizin sayfa duzeni de ayrica bir basari....” Akurgal’in Serif Yenen’e 3 Nisan 1998 tarihli mektubundan Profesor Ekrem Akurgal “Turkish Odyssey; what a stupendous piece of work. I don't think I've ever seen a guide that is so comprehensive and illuminating and also so profusely illustrated and beautifully produced. I hope you're immensely pleased about it, because you certainly should be. I lent it to a friend and had a hard time getting it back because he liked it so much. He's a colleague at the State Department who's a specialist in the history and culture of Southern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean (especially Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus) and who teaches courses. Now he wants to borrow it again!” From David Humprey’s letter of March 21, 1998 to Serif Yenen David Humprey Harry Mau Your absolutely wonderful book arrived and we are so impressed with what you have put together. It is really a treasure-you cover everything so thoroughly and interestingly-it will be of great value to both new and old visitors to Turkey. Congratulations!” From Elinor Thaviu’s letter of January 14, 1998 to Serif Yenen Elinor Thaviu Turkish Odyssey is absolutely beautiful. The pictures, maps and text make it a magnificent book. I enjoyed reading your comments and seeing pictures of some of the places we visited together. Once again, congratulations on this accomplishment.” From Carl Laney’s letter of January 8, 1998 to Serif Yenen Carl Laney
